How much does it cost to attend Ascension Lutheran School?

The cost of tuition depends on the student’s grade level, the number of students attending per family, as well as church member or non-member status. Ascension Lutheran will gladly provide a tuition sheet for your reference via e-mail or answer your questions over the phone. Please contact the school at 310.371.3531 for specific information. Ascension Lutheran remains one of the more affordable private educational institutions in the local area.

What is the age requirement at Ascension Lutheran School in Torrance?

A student entering kindergarten at Ascension must turn five years old prior to September 1st of the current school year. For example, kindergartners enrolling for the 2015-2016 school year must turn five years old prior to September 1st, 2015.

The same requirement exists for 1st grade as well. 1st grade students must turn six year before September 1st of the current school year. The age requirement is eliminated for grades 2 through 8.

Sidenote: Currently, the State of California is in the process of adjusting it’s kindergarten age requirement (one month per year) to September 1st. As of Fall 2014, students needed to be 5 years old by September 1st in order to be age-eligible for California public schools.

Does my child need to take a test in order to enroll at Ascension Lutheran?

All new students, kindergarten through Grade 8, must test prior to acceptance at Ascension Lutheran. Kindergarten applicants will take a developmental test. If the student has already tested with an outside company like Chancy and Bruce Educational Resources, we will accept those official results in place of conducting the developmental screening at Ascension.

For Grades 1 through 8, we will conduct an assessment test prior to acceptance and placement of the student.

Why do I have to provide a School Recommendation Form from our previous school?

Pay the annual Registration Fee

Do you require mandatory service hours and fundraising?

At Ascension Lutheran School, we do not require mandatory service hours nor do we charge for volunteer hours. We want our parents and families to participate and serve as their hearts and schedules permit. But we do need volunteers to help the school thrive and provide the best opportunities and experiences for our students! With this in mind, we ask our parents and families to find an area where they can volunteer. This enhances the school experience for your student as well as your family.

We do not mandate fundraising at Ascension Lutheran School either. Through our Parent-Teacher League (PTL), we do offer a number of fundraising events throughout the year but participation is voluntary.

Does Ascension Lutheran accept international students?

Ascension Lutheran School in Torrance accepts international students if the student meets certain criteria. First, there must be available space in the desired classroom. Secondly, students must successfully complete the requirements for receiving the I-20 and for enrolling in Ascension.
